Crisis Response Team
Counseling Center staff participates in the university's Crisis Response Team (CRT). The Crisis Response Team is a multi-disciplinary resource that responds to crises that impact members of the University community. The primary focus of the CRT is to meet the emergent needs of affected students in crisis. In the course of its interventions, however, the CRT also works to assist other students, families, faculty, and staff who may be impacted either directly or indirectly by the same incident. Several members of the Counseling Center faculty serve as emergency providers for the CRT and meet with the team at its monthly meetings. Additionally, other members of the Center faculty participated in the planning and implementation of training programs, caregiver debriefings, memorial services, and case consultation. The kinds of crises the CRT has responded to include notification in the death of family members, accidental death of students in auto crashes, suicide attempts, drug and alcohol overdose and hospitalization, completed suicides, death of faculty and associated impact on students and colleagues, threat of harm in an academic setting, pedestrian injuries from moving vehicles, violent and disruptive behavior in a residential setting, and sexual assault. University Counseling Resource Network
The UCRN is the counseling component of the comprehensive campus disaster management plan. It is composed of representatives from six campus academic and direct service agencies that, in the event of a campus wide disaster, are organized to provide skilled mental health services. The UCRN is called upon when the magnitude of an event exceeds the resources of the CRT. All members of Center's faculty and intern personnel are listed on the disaster contact list. Several of the Center's faculty has also participated in the planning, development, and implementation of system wide simulations designed to stress the UCRN and train its participants. As a contributing agency, the Center received a performance report based on its participation in the simulation that indicated all procedures were satisfactorily in place and functioning efficiently. The Associate Director of the Counseling Center serves as the coordinator of the counseling component for both the CRT and UCRN.
