International Students: Confidentiality
The Counseling Center adheres to very strict confidentiality standards governed by the State of Florida law. Any information provided is strictly confidential. This means that by law the counselor cannot provide any information about you to anyone without your written permission, including whether you are meeting with a counselor at the Counseling Center. It also means that your information will not be disclosed to your academic department, your home government, the U.S. government, your friends, or your parents. The only exceptions to this confidentiality policy are when there is a life threatening situation to yourself or others such as suicidal behavior or violence against your partner, when there is a report of a child or elderly person in danger of a being harmed by a caregiver, or when release of the information is otherwise required by a court of law.
