Counseling
Welcome from the Training Director
Dear Prospective Internship Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the University of Florida Counseling Center's Predoctoral Internship in Psychology. Our training program is designed to facilitate the transition from student to professional through training seminars, supervision and clinical experiences. We attempt to create an atmosphere that is conducive to interns learning and development through an appropriate balance of support and challenge. We have placed the entire description of our Internship program on our web site to facilitate easy access and review. We are participating in the APPIC Match (Match Code: 2061), and we are using the APPIC Application for Psychology Internship (AAPI).
To access the AAPI directly from this site:
- Click the link to APPIC in our brochure or
- On your internet browser, type in the APPIC address: http://www.appic.org/
- To download the AAPI to your diskette or hard disk follow the specific instructions for the computer you are using.
Our internship program has been fully accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1982. We have a culturally and professionally diverse training staff who are committed to providing quality training of our interns. Our staff represent various theoretical orientations, and share a commitment to providing multiculturally sensitive clinical and training experiences. Our Center offers individual, couples and group counseling, outreach and consultation to the university community. In addition, as faculty affiliated with the departments of Counselor Education and Psychology, our training staff is integrally involved in teaching and other scholarly activities.
The internship selection process involves two steps. The first step is a review of application materials, including the AAPI, letters of recommendation and academic transcripts. Our application deadline is November 15, 2007. Following the review of applications, our selection committee selects those applicants who are assessed as having experiences and goals that are identified as being a "good fit" with the training expectations at our site. We will notify applicants about selection as finalists by December 14, 2007.
The second phase of the selection process involves participation in two telephone interviews, one with a couple of members of the selection committee, and the other with the training director. The purpose of the interviews is to have an opportunity to speak with you about how you see our internship program facilitating your professional development. We are primarily evaluating the "goodness of fit" of our internship applicants during the telephone interview. We do not conduct any on-site interviews. This is because we have concerns about the financial costs of the internship selection process on applicants. I recognize that for some applicants, a visit of the facility provides you with valuable information in your decision making about internship sites. I would encourage you to wait until after notification of finalist status before requesting a visit of the facility. Also please note that a site visit is for your information only and will not be in any way used in our selection process.
If you have not requested an applicant agreement form and materials describing the APPIC Internship Matching Program for positions beginning in 2007, please contact the:
